This video from Novartis draws attention to the fact that many of us take the simple act of breathing for granted. However, for people who suffer from lung diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), breathing is not a simple act and the struggle is very real.

The COPD Life is Calling initiative aims to help people who suffer from the condition. The website poses various challenges to COPD patients an an attempt to help them improve their quality of life, reduce the symptoms of the disease and slow down the progression.

The challenges include cutting down on smoking, exercising, and getting in touch with old friends. COPD patients from around the world are invited to add their own challenges, which vary from entering a 10km walk and eliminating junk food on the weekend.
