Approved Treatments for COPD
Advair Diskus
Advair Diskus (fluticasone-salmeterol) is an inhalation maintenance treatment for breathing difficulties caused by COPD. It is a combination of an inhaled corticosteroid (fluticasone) with a long-acting bronchodilator (salmeterol).
Anoro Elipta
Anoro Elipta (umeclidinium-vilanterol) is used to maximize bronchodilation for the once-daily maintenance treatment of COPD. Umeclidinium is a long-acting muscarinic antagonist bronchodilator, and vilanterol is a long-acting beta2-agonist bronchodilator.
Atrovent HFA
Atrovent HFA (ipratropium) is a short-acting bronchodilator used to prevent wheezing, shortness of breath, coughing, and chest tightness in people with COPD.
Bevespi Aerosphere
Bevespi Aerosphere (glycopyrrolate-formoterol) is designed to maximize bronchodilation as a long-term maintenance treatment for COPD. Glycopyrrolate is a long-acting muscarinic antagonist) bronchodilator, and formoterol is a long-acting beta2-agonist bronchodilator.
Breo Ellipta
Breo ellipta (fluticasone-vilanterol) is used as a maintenance therapy for airway obstruction and to reduce sudden flares caused by COPD. It is a combination of an inhaled corticosteroid (fluticasone) and a long-acting bronchodilator (vilanterol).
Brovana
Brovana (arformoterol) is a bronchodilator in the long-acting beta agonists class. It is used to control wheezing, shortness of breath, coughing, and chest tightness in people with COPD.
Combivent Respimat
Combivent Respimat (albuterol–ipratropium) is a short-acting bronchodilator for people with COPD whose symptoms are not controlled by a regular aerosol bronchodilator and continue to experience a bronchospasm (airway constriction).
Daliresp
Daliresp (roflumilast) is used in adults with severe COPD to decrease the number of exacerbations. It is in a class of medications called phosphodiesterase inhibitors and works by decreasing the swelling in the lungs.
Dupixent
Dupixent (dupilumab) is an injectable maintenance therapy approved for adults with poorly controlled COPD and elevated blood counts of a type of immune cell called eosinophil. It is designed to improve patients’ lung function, ease symptoms, and reduce exacerbations by targeting eosinophils.
Formoterol
Formoterol (brand names Perforomist, Foradil) is a bronchodilator in a class of medications called long-acting beta agonists. It is used to control wheezing, shortness of breath, coughing and chest tightness in people with COPD.
Incruse Ellipta
Incruse Ellipta (umeclidinium) is an anticholinergic medicine used as a long-term treatment in people with COPD. It works by relaxing and opening the airways to the lungs, making breathing easier.
Nucala
Nucala (mepolizumab) is an injectable therapy approved in the U.S. for adults with poorly controlled COPD and high blood counts of eosinophils, a type of immune cell. It’s designed to lower exacerbations by targeting eosinophils.
Ohtuvayre
Ohtuvayre (ensifentrine) is an inhaled maintenance therapy approved in the U.S. for adults with COPD. The nonsteroidal therapy is designed to improve patients’ lung function and ease disease symptoms by simultaneously lessening lung inflammation and widening the airways.

Striverdi Respimat
Striverdi Respimat (olodaterol)is a long-acting bronchodilator from the beta-adrenergic agonists LABA class of medicines. It is used to control wheezing, shortness of breath, coughing, and chest tightness caused by COPD.
Symbicort
Symbicort (budesonide-formoterol) is a maintenance treatment used to prevent bronchospasm (airway narrowing) caused by COPD. It is a combination of an inhaled corticosteroid (budesonide) that reduces inflammation, and a long-acting bronchodilator (formoterol).
Theophylline
Theophylline is a bronchodilator that’s been used in the treatment of COPD for more than seven decades. It is used to treat wheezing or shortness of breath caused by asthma, bronchitis, emphysema, and other breathing disorders.
Trelegy Ellipta
Trelegy Ellipta is a once-daily, single-inhaler triple therapy approved as a long-term maintenance treatment for certain patients COPD, including those with chronic bronchitis and emphysema.

Yupelri
Yupelri (revefenacin) is an approved once-daily maintenance therapy developed by Theravance Biopharma and Mylan (now part of Viatris) for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Its U.S. approval, in 2018, was based on data from several Phase 3 studies showing Yupelri’s superiority over a placebo at ameliorating lung function in patients with moderate to severe disease.
